Upstate Golf Courses

Why is golf one of the most popular sports in the Upstate of South Carolina (not counting Clemson Football)? I have to admit that I once could not understand why grown men would run around in public wearing pajamas and chase a little white ball.

I guess there are a lot of answers. Companionship, nature, exercise and business are the ones that come to mind. These are certainly the reasons that I am now an avid golfer. Golfer may not be an accurate description of my ability but if Tiger can hit it into the woods, so can I.
